Press ArchiveSatan Stole My Teddy BearAn extremely rockin' duo from Ohio. Fast paced spazz-noise punk rock. A bright red 7" graced my record player - and my record player took it with open arms. The vocals, by a young lady named Jenny, remind me vaguely of Team Dresch at times, then all the sudden into dramatic Breederesque or Sonic Youth style distortion. The first song - "Split The Image" - is the type of noise song (and yes, noise can have a beat!!) that would rock out on the college/underground station. And should. From a dark abstract intro, into a lighter-poppier tune, then back again into the rolling snare and thrashing guitar - it is one song that will grab your attention instantly. Side B consists of "Jocko Homo." Starting out with a lovely guitar drenched in feedback, a hardcore marching beat takes over. A snarling Jenny backed with harsh drum boy Mark - it forms into a anthem for angry youth. A good noisy song that those indie-noise rock kids can really get into. Jenny is just full of vocal-goddessness, she can be one little angel then a snarling evil bitch. This is fun. Both talented musicians, they make a totally rock hard noise sound. Not exactly punk. Not exactly hardcore. Not exactly noise. Wait...it's Croatan! Reviewed by Sarah Nonsense |
