Worldwide Punk

Croatan are a two-person band (Mark: drums, Jenny: guitar and vocals) with a sit-in bassist on this recording. Their sound is definitely not what I expected from a band that covers Jocko Homo by Devo. The A-side Split the Image is extremely strange and unique, but I mean this in a positive way. Some of it has this rapid stop'n'go tempo where the band seems to follow the drummer's muscle spasms. The background has a sort of droning, fuzzed-out guitar. Interesting lyrics too. The B-side is a cover of Devo's Jocko Homo like you've never heard before, and are unlikely to ever hear again. It's extremely loud and distorted, at times sounding like a futuristic tribal dance, but at the same time it's somewhat tuneful and catchy. I can't really describe this band in words too well, you have to hear them for yourself.
